Karl von Abel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Born in Wetzlar, Abel was the son of a procurator at the superior Court of Justice.
Von Abel could not avert the claims that he had broken the principle of parity, and that the Christian party was in contact with radical elements.
Von Abel was dismissed from power on 17 February 1847 when he and the other ministers opposed the naturalisation of the Kings' young lady Lola Montez.

 Niels Henrik Abel
Abel on realising that much of the previous mathematical work was unproved, took it as his own responsibility to fill these gaps in mathematics by providing the proofs that had been left out.
Abel’s work in mathematics was so revolutionary that one mathematician stated: “He has left mathematicians something to keep them busy for five hundred years.” Abel’s life story is one of the most tragic in the history of science.
Abel’s father was a member of the session of the Norwegian Parliament (Storting) that was specially convened in 1814 with a specific purpose—rewriting the Norwegian constitution reflecting union with Sweden in place of Denmark.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Johann Joseph Ignaz von Doellinger
At the request of Abel, Minister of the Interior, Döllinger began in 1838, a course of lectures in the Faculty of Philosophy on the philosophy of religion in opposition to the teaching of the honorary professor Von Baader, the theosophist, and of Schelling.
Karl Von Abel, Minister of Interior, now asked him to publish a popular "Weltgeschichte" or universal history, from the Catholic point of view, also a manual of religion (Religionslehrbuch) for the gymnasia or high-schools; he began these works but, feeling himself unsuited to their composition, persuaded the minister to relieve him from the undertaking.
On the suggestion of von Schulte, and despite the opposition and warnings of Döllinger, it was decided to establish the "Old Catholic Church".

Georg Ludwig Von Maurer - LoveToKnow 1911
GEORG LUDWIG VON MAURER (1790-1872), German statesman and historian, son of a Protestant pastor, was born at Erpolzheim, near Durkheim, in the Rhenish Palatinate, on the 2nd of November 1790.
After the fall of the ministry of Karl von Abel (1788-1859) in 1847, he became chief Bavarian minister and head of the departments of foreign affairs and of justice, but was overthrown in the same year.
His only son, Conrad von Maurer (1823-1902), was a Scandinavian scholar of some repute, and like his father was a professor at the university of Munich.

 Bavaria - LoveToKnow 1911
Though his own sympathies, and those of his allpowerful minister, Max Josef von Montgelas, were, if anything, French rather than Austrian, the state of the Bavarian finances, and the fact that the Bavarian troops were scattered and disorganized, placed him helpless in the hands of Austria;.
The earlier years of his reign were marked by a liberal spirit and the reform, especially, of the financial administration; but the revolutions of 1831 frightened him into reaction, which was accentuated by the opposition of the parliament to his expenditure on building and works of art.
On the 17th of February 1847, Abel was dismissed, for publishing his memorandum against the proposal to naturalize Lola, who was an Irishwoman; and the Protestant Georg Ludwig von Maurer took his place.

In 1832 he was chosen by the conference of London to occupy the newly-erected throne of Greece, and on the 6th of February 1833 he landed at Nauplia, then the capital of independent Greece.
Otto, who was not yet eighteen, was accompanied by a council of regency composed of Bavarians under the presidency of Count Josef Ludwig von Armansperg (1787-1853), who as minister of finance in Bavaria had succeeded in restoring the credit of the state at the cost of his popularity.
The task of governing a semi-barbarous people, but recently emancipated, divided into bitter factions, and filled with an exaggerated sense of their national destiny, would in no case have been easy; it was not facilitated by the bureaucratic methods introduced by the regents.

Austrian-born director Erich von Stroheim's style was more harsh and European than the works of other imported directors.
Von Stroheim's admired nine-hour, 42-reel silent masterpiece Greed (1924) (a detailed adaptation of Frank Norris' novel McTeague) was screened only once in its original form for newly-formed MGM executives including Irving Thalberg, and then severely cut down to its current length of 133 minutes (about 10 reels).
Another technological cinematic achievement was attained by experimental French filmmaker Abel Gance in his film Napoleon (1927), a visually revolutionary picture originally six hours long and partially filmed with panoramic, "triptych" Polyvision (three-screens side-by-side to create a wide-screen effect, later known by future generations as Cinerama) at its climax.

Others, such as Steven Kleiman's "What is Abel's Theorem Anyway?" are a blend of mathematics and history, inspecting four theorems that are often called "Abel's Theorem", looking at what Abel actually did, and looking at what came after.
