It is bounded on the north by Wilson County, on the east by Gonzales and DeWitt counties, on the south by Goliad and Bee counties, and on the west by Atascosa and Live Oak counties.
The central and southern portions of the county are drained by the San Antonio River, the northern portion by Cibolo and Ecleto creeks.
In 1906 Karnes County farmers produced 24,282 bales of cotton, in 1916 30,688 bales, and in 1926 42,400 bales.

ORIGINS: Karnes City was founded in 1890 during the Christmas season when a group of Cuero businessmen bought 1,000 acres of land from J. Calvert for $5 an acre.
By 1893, Karnes City was the largest city in the county and citizens petitioned to move the county seat from Helena to Karnes City.

We have been informed, however, that the county seeks to oppose the amendment of a radioactive materials license that was issued pursuant to article 4590f, V.T.C.S. It is necessary to examine that statute to determine whether the commissioners court expressly or impliedly is given such authority.
Where the county attorney is not required by statute to represent the county in a particular matter, the commissioners court may employ private counsel therefor.
While the county attorney is required to represent the county in suits brought by it, he "can bring no suit for or in the name of the county unless authorized so to do by some statute or some order of the commissioners' court." Id. at 233.

On the afternoon of September 1, the KARNES took departure for Saipan with Task Group 54.21, consisting of TransCivs 39, 73, 64, and 22, and escorted by DesRon 13.
The KARNES participated in the occupation of Sasebo, third largest Japanese naval base, from September 22-25, unloading cargo at the Boat Basin and over Dock Item 7, using Jap pilots and tugs to approach the docks.
The majority of the crew was transferred or discharged leaving a skeleton crew on board to sail the ship through the Panama Canal en route to Newport News, Virginia where after a short stay, she sailed to Norfolk, Virginia, putting in at Norfolk Shipbuilding and Drydock Company for decommission in April of 1946.
