Burn became a Karori Borough Councillor in 1909 and was elected Mayor in 1915, a position he held until Karori's amalgamation with the city in 1920.
In Karori he was a foundation trustee of the Karori Methodist Church and laid the foundation stone of the second Karori Methodist Church in 1912 when he was Mayor of Karori.
Hamilton was a Karori Borough Councillor from 1911‑1912 to 1918‑1919.

A significant feature of the walkway adjacent to the library that connects Karori Road to the Community Centre is a collection of commemorative bricks that were planted by children from the local schools.
Local history buffs are catered for by the Karori Historical Society files which are housed on the first floor of the library.

 News - Major Road Safety Changes Proposed for Karori
Up to seven sets of new traffic lights are being proposed for Karori as part of Wellington City Council’s SaferRoads project and it is time for locals to say what they think of the suggested changes.
Traffic lights at the intersection of Parkvale and Karori Roads have already been approved as part of the town centre redevelopment.
Booklets, which outline the changes and include a submission form, are being delivered to all Karori residents this week and will also be available at libraries, Council service centres or by phoning (04) 499 4444.

Our goal continues to be "To support the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary through a District Project to provide an outcome of enduring value, which will be a permanent and prominent testimony to Lions' involvement in the development of the Sanctuary."

 News - Karori to Get Four New Sets of Traffic Signals
Four new sets of traffic lights are among the changes planned in Karori next year to make the suburb’s roads safer — four fewer than originally proposed.
The Council also plans to reduce the speed limit to 40km/hr on all streets in Karori except Karori Road but is required to carry out further consultation before that happens.
A third of the reported accidents in Karori (60 from 1999 to 2003) involve injuries compared with 23 percent citywide and the majority occur on Karori Road, Chaytor Street, South Karori Road and Parkvale Road.

After an operation spanning eight years, historic Karori cemetery is now free of the invasive weed, African feathergrass.
The African feathergrass infestation in Karori cemetery, which consisted of about 3.8 hectares of scattered plants, was one of only two main infestations in Wellington city (the other is in Miramar).
According to Greater Wellington Regional Council, which is responsible for African feathergrass control in the region, the eradication operation has been very successful.
