Raden Ayu Kartini - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kartini was born into an aristrocatic Javanese family; her father, Raden Mas Sosroningrat, became Regency Chief of Jepara, and her mother was Raden Mas' first wife, but not the most important one.
Kartini's father was more lenient than some during his daughter's seclusion, giving her such privileges as embroidery lessons and occasional appearances in public for special events.
Kartini loved her father deeply although it is clear that her deep affection for him became yet another obstacle to the realisation of her ambitions.

Kartini was known to be the most persevering woman in fighting against the tradition of feudalism prevailing in the Javanese culture during her lifetime.
Kartini's role has been narrowed down not only because of her being positioned only as someone that set in motion the movement of women's emancipation in this country but also because some obsevers have often raised doubt about her nationalism and have even suspected her of having being turned Dutch.
