Topic: Karvia

The Return of Emigrants from America to Finland
Karvia and Parkano have been chosen as examples of Finnish rural communes, because their emigration pattern can be considered to represent Finland's emigration areas.
On the other hand it has been verified when making the emigrant lists that the number of emigrants leaving in one five year period is reflected, in spite of the developments beyond the ocean, in the number of emigrants returning in the next five year period.
The two communes studied, Karvia and Parkano, thus represent the strength of returning emigration very well as far as the communes of mainland Finland are concerned.
