Kasai - LoveToKnow 1911   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
'KASAI, or Cassai, a river of Africa, the chief southern affluent of the Congo.
Near its mouth the Kasai, in its lower course generally a broad stream strewn with islands, is narrowed to about half a mile on passing through a gap in the inner line of the West African highlands, by the cutting of which the old lake of the Kasai basin must have been drained.
Cameron and Paul Pogge crossed the upper Kasai in the early "seventies." The Kwa mouth was seen by H. Stanley in his journey down the Congo in 1877, and he rightly regarded it as the outlet of the Kwango, though not surmising it was also the outlet of the Kasai.

 Biliary Atresia - C.L.A.S.S.
Once the diagnosis is confirmed, the preferred treatment is to remove the atretic biliary ducts outside the liver and attach the small intestine directly to the liver at the spot where bile is found or expected to drain.
The most common complication associated with the Kasai procedure is ascending cholangitis, a bacterial infection of the biliary tree.
If the Kasai procedure is successful in draining the liver and returning the bilirubin back to normal, children may live many years with normal growth and activities.

 PCPA - Akria Kasai
Heralded as the “Nijinsky of Butoh,” Kasai transcends temporal distinctions in a journey through cultures, epochs and states of being.
Kasai begins the performance in a woman’s kabuki costume, and appears to perform a traditional Japanese dance although it is completely improvised.
Kasai then spent the next two decades studying and dancing with Ohno and Tatsumi Hijikata, the founders of butoh.

The Seattle Times: Arts & Entertainment: Akira Kasai steps outside boundaries of butoh
For 20 years, Kasai studied under two founders of butoh, Kazuo Ohno and Tatsumi Hijikata, and in 1971 he established an institute for butoh studies in Tokyo, Tenshi-Kan. But Kasai has also studied modern dance, classical ballet and eurythmy, and very consciously welcomes external influences into the butoh tradition.
In his current piece, called "Pollen Revolution," Kasai starts out dressed as a woman in a traditional kabuki costume (with a white face, kimono and fl wig), and through a series of improvised and studied deconstructive movements gradually transforms into a hip-hop dancer.
Kasai has been called the "Nijinsky of butoh," and he agrees that there may be a parallel.

Thus, last May's announcement of Rise of the Kasai came as a pleasant shock to many.
Yes, the game manages to do some things right, as Tati and Griz provide a fast alternative to Rau and Bamusu's cumbersome combat, and yes, there are some enjoyable moments, but these are easily overshadowed by the frustration associated with the AI and overall lack of polish.
Judged independently of its predecessor, Kasai fares even worse as the player then lacks the motivation to keep playing and unravel the mysteries of the plot.

Rise of the Kasai continues the exploits of the barrel-jawed barbarian named Rau and his feathered friend Kuzo, but this time he is joined by his sister, Tati, who has more curves than Mullholland Drive and is just as dangerous at high speeds.
Kasai offers bigger, more intricate levels than what was found in the original title, a cooperative element that makes you feel like you're part of a team, more intriguing characters that help expand the combat options, and an artistic merit that few games have achieved on PlayStation 2.
Rise of the Kasai may have fallen short of its initial goal, but it is a welcome sequel that has both style and substance.

Rise of the Kasai: PlayStation 2 (PS2) Game Reviews - The Armchair Empire
Action-adventure games have come a long way since then, but one tie that binds Rastan and Sony's Rise of the Kasai, one of the newest weapon-wielding action-adventure titles, is the satisfaction of a good old decapitation or infliction of other bodily harm to an enemy via a large and powerful handheld instrument of death.
As a sequel to 2002's popular The Mark of Kri, Rise of the Kasai follows similar footsteps of action-adventure as the original, with the return of the exploits of the huge barbarian hero, Rau.
Still, Rise of the Kasai is definitely worth the time you'll spend slinging swords, axes, bows and arrows, and other handheld weaponry, slaying away with beautiful cut-scenes as your reward for completing the killing task at hand.

Human Monkeypox -- Kasai Oriental, Zaire, 1996-1997
Monkeypox is an orthopoxvirus with enzootic circulation in rainforests of central and western Africa; the virus can be transmitted to humans and cause a syndrome clinically similar to smallpox (e.g., pustular rash, fever, respiratory symptoms, and in some cases, death).
During the initial investigation of this cluster of human cases, specimens of serum and/or crusted scab or fluid from vesicles were collected from 11 patients, and monkeypox virus infection was confirmed in all 11 patients by the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for Smallpox and Other Poxvirus Infections at CDC.
This outbreak was unrecognized until the end of July 1996, when an abrupt increase in the number of cases prompted a preliminary investigation by public health officials in Zaire (1).
