This variety was registered and released as a recommended variety in Hokkaido in 1976 (Soybean Norin 61).
It is adapted to the Tokachi district, Abashiri district, and the central and southern parts of Kamikawa district in Hokkaido.
Distinguishing characteristics of this variety are purple flowers, gray pubescence, broad leaflets, yellow seedcoat with yellow hilum, and a determinate growth habit.

Based on the results of field tests of the trailer-supported harvesting system, we implemented management evaluations of 20, 25 and 30 ha farms, which are the typical sizes of upland/vegetable farms in the district where the field tests were conducted.

[Brief History] In 1189 Kiyoshige Saburo Kasai was nominated to be the lord of this area and the southern Iwate along the Kitakami River by Yoritomo Minamoto after the fall of the Oshu-Fujiwara family.
In 1590 the Kasai family was attainted by Hideyoshi Toyotomi who accused them of not advancing against the Odawara-Hojo clan at the head of his men.
After the battle between the former retainers of the Kasai clan and the Date clan, this area belonged to the Date clan during the Edo Period (1603-1867).

This variety was registered at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery under the number of soybean "Norin 90" and named "Toyokomachi" and adopted as one of the recommended soybean varieties of Hokkaido in 1988".
It is resistant to SCN (race 1), like Toyosuzu, moderately resistant to cool weather and moderately resistant to the spreading of brown speck on seedcoat when damaged at states after pod setting by cool weathers.
It is expected that the variety is cultivated instead of Kitakomachi in the Kamikawa district and of Toyosuzu in the Tokachi and Abashiri districts in Hokkaido.

Deeply interested in the study of the traditional calendar (rekigaku), Yin-Yang, and the theory of five phases of matter (gogyō), Nakajima had independently studied these subjects, but he later became a religious teacher in Shinrikyō, and in 1935 established a proselytization center affiliated with that religion in the Kasai district of Hokkaido.
Thereafter Nakajima received a license as a priest (shinshoku) of Shinto, and from 1941 on he had charge of managing multiple shrines in the town of Memuro in the Kasai district.
After the war his Shinrikyō-affiliated proselytization center grew into a larger body, but it seceded from Shinrikyō in 1950.
