	NEPAL: Three cases of arbitrary detention by security personnel

		On November 19, three linkmen of the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) were arrested in connection with the killing of a driver from Siliguri in Jalpaiguri district.

		Pahari, a contributor to the local weekly Rastriya Swabhiman (National Pride), was detained in the village of Khorako Mukh, in Kaski District, in western Nepal.
		In a rare response to journalists' outrage, Maoist spokesman Krishna Bahadur Mahara wrote a letter to FNJ in September in which he called the murder a breach of policy, promised to investigate the killing and to respect press freedom, and stated that the party had conducted "self-criticism" on the matter.

		BACKGROUND: Between 1999 and 2002 INF has been providing training on HIV/AIDS, and its various issues to nearly all the Basic Health Workers (BHWs) of Kaski district in the Western Development Region of Nepal.
		A comparative study was done to compare the HIV/AIDS Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) of these BHWs with the KAP of untrained BHWs in Tanahun district.
		Methodology: Through stratified proportionate random sampling 50 BHWs in both districts were selected.
