We've used the Air France bus on 2 trips, and it is comfortable and cheap.
Also, there has been a lot of construction on various lines recently, so it's advisable to check back frequent to make sure there won't be a diversion that forces you onto a nasty set of stairs.
I believe there is a bus that will take you to that airport, but I don't remember where to pick it up and how to get to that bus terminal.

I have not been to Greece since I spent a month there in 2000- 2 weeks in the Peloponnese and the Mani and another 2 weeks on the island of Mytilini(Lesvos) The overnight trip out on the ferry was a fun experience.
I love Greece, but have a phobia of tour boats and lines of tourists, so I much prefer finding my way to the more out of the way places!
*It is technically feasible to do this itinerary by ferry and rail, except for the Ionian coast to Salonika connection which is feasible by bus or rental, but not for the faint of heart.
