Kataklysm - Shadows And Dust Review - sputnikmusic   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Then we hear another Kataklysm trademark which is the high pitched vocals instead of the usual death growl, coupled with one of the best riffs on the album and some cool lyrics.
What makes Kataklysm really stand out in the crowd (in my opinion at least) is the excellent slower sections that they sometimes include in thier songs.
This was one of the first Kataklysm songs I heard and I always remember the chorus cos it's kind of catchy: "I'm bound in chains, I'm a prisoner of your hate, I'm bound in chains...".

Kataklysm - 'Shadows & Dust' review @ into-obscurity.com[enter the underground]
The group of Canucks that go by the moniker Kataklysm have not only created a new genre of extreme music, northen hyperblast, but have slowly but surely worked their creation into perfection and "Shadows & Dust" is the album which proves it.
Having humble beginnings as just another brutal death metal band, Kataklysm have, on "Shadows & Dust" learned to create songs that are just as vile as ever, but with a catchy side to them as well, so they don't just come off as battering ram after battering ram of blasting brutality.
Kataklysm may not be creating the most ground breaking or the most punishing music, but they just have a lot more quality than their compadres.

Kataklysm instead toured that spring with Deicide, Cathedral, Fleshcrawl and Sinister as part of the Bash Easter Festival.
Kataklysm would participate in the Nuclear Blast Festivals 2000 and appear on the DVD of the same name in 2001, alongside Destruction, Hypocrisy and others.
The last few Kataklysm albums were mere shadows of the band’s early work and were shelved as quickly as they came in so it is a pleasure to report that In The Arms Of Devastation is a better product.

After harnessing their aesthetic for the greater bulk of the '90s, Kataklysm can now add themselves to these hallowed but under-appreciated ranks with their fourth and latest album, The Prophecy (Stigmata of the Immaculate).
Not quite the sci-fi shred of the aforementioned, Kataklysm nonetheless offer an equally brainy brand of metal that's overtly grinding death metal, covertly kraut rock.
For as heady as The Prophecy gets, Kataklysm possess the oft-aspired-to elan of keeping things just accessible enough (i.e., slide rule not needed too often) without resorting to verse/chorus predictability, with the main emphasis being a thorough whiplashing of the mental and physical: the cerebral colliding head on -- and well -- with the visceral.
