Jamie's mother, Kathy Sinnott, from Cork, spent the past 22 years fighting for recognition for autism, before finally suing the Department of Education.
The State had claimed that Jamie had received education and said that it was not obliged to provide free primary education past the age of 18.
He awarded Jamie Sinnott and his mother £255,000 and said that it was now proper that Jamie should have the best education and training.

When Brian Carso was County Clerk, he promoted Kathy Sinnott (now Sinnott Gardner) to the post of Deputy Clerk, presumably because he felt she was the best person for the job.
Sinnott Gardner had done an excellent job as deputy and did the same when she served as clerk.
Sinnott Gardner is the longest serving employee in the clerk's office and has the respect and confidence of the staff and the public she serves.

They still do not have the rights they have been fighting for regarding education, and Kathy Sinnott is unhappy because the money she won as her son’s right (and as an autistic person’s right) has now been transformed into what she called a "gift of charity".
The Sinnott case raised complex issues relating to the extent of the State’s education to provide for free primary education, the definition of primary education and the powers of the courts to make mandatory orders against the State.

Disability campaigner Ms Kathy Sinnott is to challenge last year's cliff-hanger general election result in Cork South Central on a number of grounds, including a claim that the Minister for Health, Mr Martin, did not declare the full extent of his election spending.
The High Court yesterday gave permission to Ms Sinnott, who lost out on a Dáil seat by just six votes, to bring a petition challenging the results of the election in her constituency.
Ms Sinnott also claims that two other Fianna Fáil deputies in her constituency, Mr Batt O'Keeffe and Mr John Dennehy, would also have exceeded the spending limits had their expenses statements included certain costs, particularly that of running a constituency party office.
