Born in California in 1952, Kathy Tyers fell in love with Montana during frequent summer vacations there with her family.
In 1979 Kathy retired from teaching to start a family and in 1983, while her toddler son napped, she set up her old typewriter on the table and started to write.
Kathy Tyers’ is a pioneer in Christian science fiction and I for one am glad.

Firebird by Kathy Tyers: A Re-write of a Classic Sci Fi Novel - Associated Content
Tyers is a flutist in her hometown philharmonic orchestra.
Tyers is probably best known for her contributions to the Star Wars Expanded Universe (especially her novels The Truce at Bakura and Balance Point).
Firebird was a solid space opera tale about a girl born the third child in a royal family, but expected to die in a world in which the royals and other nobles practice a strict policy of heir limitation.

Firebird, from the decadent planet Netaia, was born a wastling, doomed to a glorious death in combat against the Ehretan Federate.
Tyers is a busy writer with a confusing array of characters and settings, and she leans heavily on Star Wars.
Firebird's rejection of Netaia's rigid religion and the idea of a culture based on ruthless eugenics prove intriguing, as do certain minor characterizations, such as that of Terza, a young eugenics technician who, in support of the war effort, is forced to bear a child the old-fashioned way.

I don't know if that was a term used only at Bantam Spectra, but as Janna explained, her "slime pile" consisted of agented manuscripts that have come in from agents they've never heard of, who could be the author's mother-in-law with home-computer-printed letterhead and business cards, for all they know.

The cataclysmic destruction that is hinted at is there; Tyers just rushes through it as though it were nothing more than an introductory paragraph.
Instead of relying on action passages and interesting character development, Tyers focuses a good deal of time on plot devices and conflicts that are quickly forgotten.
For example, Tyers introduces what I call "The Case of the Missing Jedi." Normally, this would be interesting, but the character in question is one in which I have never heard of.

The Truce at Bakura by Kathy Tyers (1994)
A far-fetched concept, to be sure, but in Kathy Tyers s Star Wars: The Truce at Bakura, that s precisely what must happen to save the universe from a horrific fate.
Tyers sets her novel immediately after the climatic battle at Endor, in which the Rebel Alliance has succeeded in destroying the Emperor s second Death Star, and both Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine himself have died.
