Kattabomman ascended the throne after Jagaveera Pandiyan, who had no issue, and later came to be known as Adi Kattabomman, the first of the clan of Kattabomman.
Kattabomman wrote back citing the extreme drought conditions for the delay in the payment of dues and also demanded that all that was robbed off him at Ramanathapuram be restored to him.

There are seven arches installed on the road leading from Kurukkusalai to the Fort via - Ottapidaram in honour of the prominent chieftains of Kattabomman and there is also one arch that is in honour of the traditional Goddess Jakkamma.
The annual festival is held in the month of January and in the second week of May, and it attracts thousands of people.

Then your comment about him as selfish (not a real broad minded or national level) is doubtful because no selfish fellow will raise the sword against british army consisting much much higher number of soldiers and death was sure for those who raise the voice against them.
I agree on one view that 'Kattabomman' was a feudal lord and it was only a war of authority over people and wealth between 'British' and 'Kattabomman.

The utsavar idols of Lord Muruga, with consorts worshipped by Kattabomman are kept at the first prahara in the northern side, which is characteristic of temple iconography of the 19th century.
It is said that Kattabomman used to hear the bell sound after the puja was over at the temple by way of a chain of mandapams built along a distance of about 50 miles to his royal seat at Panchalankurichi.
