'Of all the '40s girl humor characters,' Artist Barbara Rausch wrote in the 1984 Overstreeet Comic Book Price Guide, 'only Katy Keene has the individuality and excellence f the great newspaper strip beauties; her peers are not Millie and Suzie, but Tarpe Mills's Miss Fury and Dale Messick's Brenda Starr.'

Millie and Patsy were popular, but not as high on my list as Katy Keene.

Please notice how the cover-logo separates "MADHOUSE" into two words, probably to further promote the concept that this comic is somehow connected with the 'real" MAD, although this isn't done with any consistency within the interior pages of this comic itself..

Comics for girls may save biz - The Washington Times: Entertainment - January 14, 2005
From the 1940s through the start of the 1960s, titles such as Millie the Model, Nellie the Nurse, Patsy the Typist and Katy Keene were produced in numbers rivaling those of Detective Comics, Superman and Captain Marvel Adventures.
Maggie Thompson, editor of the 34-year-old Comic Buyer's Guide, a publication for fans and industry insiders, believes the loss of these distribution points and their replacement in the 1970s by more specialized comic book stores decimated female readership.
Only in the last 10 years — with the appearance of smaller publishers such as Dark Horse Comics, Oni Press and Slave Labor Graphics along with the explosive rise of "manga" (Japanese comics) in the American market — have female readers begun to firmly re-embrace the art form.

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Dial H for Hero
Since "Dial H for Hero" went through superhero ideas almost as fast as Katy Keene went through her wardrobe, DC offered the same deal for designers of new ones, but with the added fillip of giving special "Dial H" T-shirts, available nowhere else, to the amateur superhero creators.
They found the dials, learned that by dialing "H-E-R-O" on them they could become superheroes (but never knew in advance "who" they'd be), and embarked on a typical superhero's crusade against crime.
As in the original series, the H was dialed on a mysterious device found in a creepy, seldom-visited place — in this case, the attic of the house Chris's family had just moved into, where he and Vicki had been summoned by a mysterious voice.

Don Markstein's Toonopedia: The Great Gusto
Gusto was created by writer Allen Saunders (Mary Worth, Kerry Drake) and artist Elmer Woggon (brother of Bill Woggon, creator of Katy Keene).
Gusto hadn't even remained the titular star long enough for the strip to be listed under his name in the syndicate's annual ad in Editor & Publisher magazine, and therefore indices of newspaper comics, which generally get their information from that source, seldom list The Great Gusto today.
J. Mortimer Gusto was an attempt to tap into the popularity of film star W.C. Fields — which seems only fair, as Fields quite likely based his screen persona on an earlier comics character, Ally Sloper.
