  Kaufman County Poor Farm County
In 1881 the County of Kaufman purchased from Eliza Jane Thompson, for the sum of $5,104.16, a total of 408.1/3 acres of land located on the Dominico Falcon Survey, which was only 1 1/4 miles from the courthouse square in Kaufman.
To the north of the farm is the County Livestock Pavilion and Fairgrounds, with the Kaufman County Sheriffs Offices and Jail to the northeast and the County Appraisal District Office and Kaufman County Library to the east.
Kaufman County created a Poor farm in 1883 in order to provide the indigent residents and families of the area with food, shelter and medicine.

....Kaufman County was formed in l848 and was named after David S. Kaufman, a noted Texas patriot who in l845 was elected as one of the first members of the Texas Delegation to the United States House of Representatives.
An election held in l848 to select the location of the county seat chose the geographical center of the county, and another election held after the shift of boundaries chose the new geographical center ("Center Point") on l50 acres to be donated by R.A. Terrell.
....The Kaufman County Poor Farm was created in July l883 when County Commissioners approved the purchase of 408 acres of land to be used for the purpose of housing and maintenance of people in the county who became indigent due to poverty, illness and epidemics.

Kaufman County was settled predominantly by natives of the southern United States, particularly Tennessee, Arkansas, and Missouri.
In terms of actual combat, the war did not come to Kaufman County, although it was felt, as slave patrols were established in each precinct and the tax dollars of the citizens went to purchase supplies for county companies in the war and to arm the county.
Developments in Kaufman County during the 1970s suggested that the downward trends of the years since 1930 were being reversed and that the upward trends of the 1960s were continuing.

We are proud to announce the formation of the Kaufman County CERT Team which is sponsored by Southern Search and Rescue, Inc. The Kaufman County CERT Team is a Community Emergency Response Team (C E R T) and is formed under the standards and guidelines as set forth by FEMA and the FEMA CERT program.
The idea for the Kaufman County CERT Team was generated in 2004 and after a long study of the CERT program and mounds of information, it was decided to have full organization starting in January 2005.
The goal for Kaufman County CERT is to train no less than 4 ten member teams (hopefully train more than this), that will be broken into colored groups that will be on call for a specific period of time each month.

The 34-year-old Kaufman County man on Monday allegedly killed a Kaufman area woman and fled the scene with one of her three teenage daughters.
According to Sharlie Davis of the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, the kidnapped teen has been returned to the area and is said to be in good condition with her family.
