  John Thaw
John Thaw (January 3, 1942 - February 21, 2002) was a British actor who achieved his first starring role in the military police television drama Redcap (1964 - 1966), and subsequently appeared in a range of television, stage and cinema roles.
He subsequently played liberal barrister James Kavanagh in Kavanagh QC (1995-1999, with a special in 2001).
Thaw died of esophageal cancer at the age of 60 in 2002.

A KAVANAGH Q.C. I recently came across this selection of wondeful publicity shots of John from Kavanagh Q.C., which are all digital photos, sharp, and crystal clear.
Thaw brought his trademark mixture of curmudgeonly belligerence and gruff sensitivity to Kavanagh, but the barrister--who first appeared on British television screens in 1995 while the Oxford detective was still alive and kicking--is no polished-up Morse.
The plots are often convoluted, but Kavanagh's wielding of the trusty sword of truth is always irresistible, particularly when the case involves some kind of high level government aberration.
