Kaya (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kaya is a roots reggae album released by Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1978.
The album's release coincided with the One Love Peace Concert, heralding Marley's triumphant return to Jamaica from exodus in London after the murder attempt.
It is important to note that many of the songs present on this album, as well as it's sister album Exodus, are rerecorded versions of older tracks present on albums like African Herbsman.

Kaya - Bob Marley & the Wailers - Song Listings
Kaya continues what has become an unspoken tradition in the evolution of Bob Marley & the Wailers discography -- blending western sounds and motifs with the icons and traditions from the very core of Jamaican society.
Likewise, the album Kaya could be easily construed as an open love letter or musical paean to the lifestyle that Marley so eagerly embraced and promoted.
The 2001 "Definitive Remasters" edition of Kaya also includes the non-LP "Smile Jamaica." Although initially issued as the flip side of "Satisfy My Soul," the song was recorded more than a year prior to this album, resulting in a somewhat odd juxtaposition.

On this album, Kaya, Marley moves a little bit away from “politics as usual”, with ten reggae tunes that straddle the line between traditional reggae and pop.
Sixth on the album is “She’s Gone”- another basic reggae song but one with enough catchiness in the music and beat to earn it a passing grade.
Most of Bob Marley’s albums can be counted on for some hard- hitting political messages, and this is one of the reasons his songs are so memorable and so well- received by music lovers around the world.

This is very disappointing when you consider how many demos and alternates from this album that are in circulation amongst collectors, let alone the amount of material that is held within the vaults.
Out of the 9 individual re-mastered albums that were re-released they contain a meager 11 bonus tracks of which only 2 were genuinely unreleased (No Sympathy and Oppressed Song), the facts speak for themselves.
However, it must be said that the sound quality on the re-mastered albums is improved and there is a noticeable difference and the albums do come with the original artwork and additional photos, but the booklets were let down by the lack of liner notes.

This album, Legend, is a collection of popular Marley tunes that was released in 1984, just three years after Marley died on May 11, 1981, supposedly from cancer.
Originally released on 1983’s “Confrontation” album, this song is very direct, with Marley singing about fl men who were taken from Africa and brought to America to fight in the Civil War and to kill native Americans.
Taken from the 1973 album “Catch a Fire”, this song is soft, smooth, and delicious, with bass guitar and funky instrumentation that, along with the sensuousness of the lyrics, adds to the song’s overall appeal.

For Kaya N'Gan Daya, his second tribute album in two years (after the Luiz Gonzaga songbook Me, You, Them), Gil astonishingly supplants the formidable personality of Bob Marley and interprets his songs with a strength and vitality that would've found any of his contemporaries lacking.
Though he traveled to Tuff Gong studios and worked with the seminal backing vocal group the I-Threes (including Marley's wife, Rita), Gil kept his own band, and they prove their resilience by never deserting their Brazilian focus.
