Kayangel (Ngcheangel) is the northernmost state of Palau 24 km north of Koror.
Kayangel Atoll (Ngcheangel), the only inhabited atoll of Kayangel State, with most (99 percent) of the land area of Kayangel State, is located at 08°04′N 134°42′E.
Ngeriungs Islet, about 820 m south of Kayangel Islet, is 1350 m long north-south, and has a width between 130 m in the south and 380 m in the north, which amounts to a land area of 27 ha.

Kayangel (112ha) and the atolls three other islets, Ngerlungs (33.8ha), Ngerebelas (8.6ha) and Orak (1.7ha) are located in the Republic of Palau (Micronesia) in the western Pacific.

After three years, Kayangel State adopted and is now implementing a management plan to ensure the long-term health of Ngeruangel through sustainable resource use.
To protect the marine life in the conservation area, all activities within one half of a mile of the seaward edge of the reef now require a permit to be issued by the government of Kayangel State.
Since 1996, the Kayangel State Government, PCS, and partner organization The Nature Conservancy have been conducting annual surveys of the reefs in Ngeruangel as part of the management plan to monitor the recovery of fish, coral, turtle, and bird populations.

And on Kayangel, it was Mokisang, the great Palauan mastercarver who taught me the techniques of producing fine utilitarian pieces using simple hand tools.
Together, we fashioned spear guns, coconut scraping stools, food platters, canoe paddles, and even wooden diving goggles.
