Hundreds of people turned out for a somber funeral ceremony before the 113-year-old remains were laid to rest in the same Missouri cemetery where they were exhumed last July after questions about their authenticity.
Final results from DNA tests won't be available until next February, but preliminary findings concluded last month that bone and hair fragments from the grave probably came from James, who was shot by a gang member in 1882.
The remains were reburied in 1902 next to his wife at Mount Olivet cemetery in Kearney, 20 miles northeast of Kansas City.
