Antiquity, Project Gallery: Maher and Banning
The goal of the 2002 season was to expose a relatively large surface area of the uppermost Geometric Kebaran deposit, and this was accomplished over an area of approximately 38 m
All material remaining in the 2 mm mesh was further wet-sieved in the lab for microartifact collection.
This year's excavation of the portion of these deposits that were in danger of eroding out of the site shows fairly convincingly that these constitute the remains of two or three individuals, possibly in flexed position (figure 2).

The Kebaran site of Nahal Hadera V   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
The site is attributed to the Kebaran cultural complex of the Early Epi-Paleolithic period dated to the end of the last ice age, some 22,500-17,500 ka (calibrated BP).
Minor technological and typological differences were detected between the different phases of the stratigraphic sequence, supporting a suggestion that all human occupations at the site could be attributed to the Kebaran technological complex.
The major human occupation at the site is dated between 21.3 to 18.0 ka (calibrated BP), according well with the middle-late part of the Kebaran sequence and with the lithic analysis of the Nahal Hadera V assemblages.

Neither of the Epipalaeolithic periods are well known in Lebanon, and both were of special interest in containing burials as well as well-preserved faunal and floral remains and artefacts including bone tools and shell beads.
The burial from the Geometric Kebaran context is one of only three known from the Levant, and the subsistence record as well as material culture show traits not seen elsewhere in the region.
Food procurement was focused on the hunting of forest and mountain species such as roe deer, wild goat and cattle in contrast to sites in the southern and eastern Levant which are located in more open wooded or steppic habitats.

WZ 148, a Geometric Kebaran site in al-Kura, northern Jordan
WZ 148 is Geometric Kebaran site in al-Kura district of northern Jordan, along the Tubna road in Wadi Ziqlab and not far from sites WZ 310 and WZ 200.
The underlying deposit was a red clayey colluvium that appears closely similar to the deposit at Tabaqat al-Buma (WZ 200) that contains early Geometric Kebaran artifacts.
Some of the bone fragments have been reserved for radiocarbon assay in the hopes of dating this assemblage as closely as possible and relating it to comparable assemblages at WZ 200 and WZ 136.

The Neolithic of the Levant September 30 2002 Excerpt 97
The fauna from the Kebaran layers at Nahal Oren was quite similar and the species were represented in much the same order but here the preponderance of gazelle (77.4%) was even more striking.
This trend continued throughout Mesolithic 1 as the evidence from Nahal Oren makes clear; fallow deer declined from about 30 or 40% in layer IX early in the Kebaran to 14.9% in layer VII at the end while gazelle increased reaching 82.6% in layer VI transitional between the Kebaran and Natufian (See Table 3 ibid).
64 seeds were recovered from the Kebaran levels at Nahal Oren which included fig and grape pips as well as vetch and grass seeds (See Table 6 in *2 Below).
