She was the goddess of freshness and purification through water who washed the entrails of the deceased and brought the sacred water to Anubis for his tasks.
She was probably related to mummification where she would fortify the body against corruption, so it would stay fresh for reanimation by the deceased's ka.

kebechet being the Creatrix and brilliant mastermind behind Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab.
So I'm squeeing happily that the work that went into this journal has been recognized by someone who I hold in such high esteem.
It seems that this cult came to existence from very early Minoan age, derived from the Egyptian belief system, but there was the strong Near-Eastern influence too.
In the Egyptian mythology the snake was a personification of the goddessKebechet, symbolized the purification by water in the funeral cult, so the snake became a protector of the pharaohs in their death.
In the Sumerian and the Old-Babylonian literary tradition the snake was a wise creature and an expert for miraculous herbs of the eternal youth and immortality.
Somewhat closer would be "Anpu." It is like the maps that have shown the same city to be spelled "Peiping," "Peking," and now "Beijing," even though the locals have always pronounced it the same way.
Somewhat less well known is that Anubis had a daughter, Kebechet.

Our forward observer units - the GVC Kebechet, GVA Taouris and GTCv Endurance are monitoring the Shivan fleet closely and will give us advance warning when the Shivans begin their move towards the Beta Aquilae jump node, which should give us several minutes more to prepare than we would have normally.
- Command responds to the sudden unexpected appearance of the Kebechet, an observer ship fleeing Shivan attack, then monitors the arrival of the first Shivan capital ships and their destruction by the GTVA blockade.
The Cypher, having suddenly worked out the true motivation of the Shivan fleet, requests permission to leave the battle and investigate, and Command denies the request, but the Cypher leaves anyway.
