Keeslers population is a team of DoD Active Duty, Reserve, Civilians and Contractors working together to provide the United States with one of the most efficient and effective military installations.
Keesler also trains approximately 200 international students in a variety of technical training courses.
Home to the second largest medical facility in the Air Force, Keesler's Medical Center with a staff of approximately 2,000 is also a training facility educating doctors, nurses and technicians in a variety of medical specialties.

Keesler Air Force Base, in Biloxi, Mississippi, is located approximately 83 miles east of New Orleans, Louisiana, and approximately 65 miles west of Mobile, Alabama.
Keesler AFB is home to the 81st Training Wing, one of Air Education and Training Command's largest technical training wings.
Keesler opened in 1941, when the city of Biloxi deeded 1,563 acres of land to the government for an Army Air Corps technical training base for airplane and engine mechanics.

I was in Radio School at Keesler in the late fifties and from there went to Chicksands RAF in England for 3 years as an Intercept Op.
I visisted Keesler I think in the 80's and was surprised that I didn't recognize much either on the base or in the town.
Out of boot camp at Sampson AFB in New York State in 1952 during the Korean War...I was sent to Keesler AFB,for "Instructor Training" and while I was there....my leisure days were spent on the Gulf of Mexico pier of the "White House Hotel"...

Upon completing OCS, I was assigned to Harlingen AFB, Texas for navigator training and then back to Keesler AFB for Electronic Warfare Officer school.
The next duty was with 5th Bomb Wing at Travis AFB, California from January 1967 to June 1969.

Captain Molloy graduated from the Communications-Electronics Officer course in 1985 at Keesler AFB, Mississippi.
After 10 months of technical training at Keesler AFB, Mississippi, he was assigned to the 46th Communications Group at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana, where he maintained the SAC Automated Command and Control System (SACCS) Remote Communications Control, and the SACCS Transmission Control Central computer systems.

After major Hurricane Dennis forced us to temporarily evacuate our aircraft from Keesler, it was hard to imagine just how bad things were about to get.
The 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron, known as the Hurricane Hunters of the Air Force Reserve, is one-of-a-kind: the only Department of Defense organization still flying into tropical storms and hurricanes--since 1944.
Our ten Lockheed-Martin WC-130 aircraft and crews are part of the 403rd Wing, based at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi.

In November 1983, the 403rd headquarters moved to Keesler AFB, Miss., where it continued its operational control of the Reserve's rescue and weather reconnaissance operations.
The medics were assigned to the Keesler Medical Center for two months to backfill for active-duty personnel deployed to Europe for the contingencies.
August 1992 found the wing in the middle of Hurricane Andrew, first by supplying aircraft and crews from the 815th Weather Squadron to perform aerial reconnaissance of the storm, then by supplying aircraft and crews from the 815th Airlift Squadron to provide transportation for emergency relief supplies into the Homestead area in Florida.

Atlanta is conveniently situated between Keesler AFB, Gulfport Mississippi, home of the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (the "Hurricane Hunters"), the NOAA weather research aircraft operating from MacDill AFB in Florida and is also adjacent to "Hurricane Alley".
Reducing the warning area could result in considerable savings and the high accuracy data provided from the aerial reconnaissance missions has improved the forecast accuracy by some 25%.
During the hurricane season, June to November, the Squadron flies aerial weather reconnaissance and tropical storm and hurricane surveillance missions in the Atlantic (west of 55W), Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico in support of the National Hurricane Centre in Miami and in the Central Pacific for the Hurricane Centre in Honolulu.

In June of 1961, I left all that I knew, hopped an Air Force plane and landed in San Antonio Texas--Lackland AFB would be my home for the next few weeks (it only seemed like an eternity)
As I struggled thru basic, I took some kind of "test" which I didn't understand,and subsequently received a communication indicating I was going to Goodfellow AFB to be a "Non Morse Intercept Operator"--(guess I flunked out on the Morse part).
By the time I graduated from basic, I got orders for Keesler AFB Mississippi to go to Morse Intercept School--Go Figure

He graduated from Officer Candidate School, Quantico, Virginia on 28 August 1970 and was released from the Marine Corps on 23 November 1971 when he was selected to attend Officer training School with follow-on pilot training.
Lt Col Nastasi was commissioned from OTS, Lackland AFB, Texas on 21 March 1972 and received his pilot wings on 20 December 1972 from Fort Rucker, Alabama.
