Keith Emerson (born November 2, 1944) is a British keyboard player and composer.
As a performer on the Hammond organ, Emerson jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with Robert Moog, and work with his invention, the Moog Modular, an analog synthesizer, in 1969.
In 2004 Emerson published his critically acclaimed autobiography entitled "Pictures of an Exhibitionist" which deals with his entire career, particularly focusing on his early days with The Nice and his nearly career ending nerve-graft surgery in 1993.

Keith Emerson likes to relate the story of how he met guitarist Dave Kilminster, who assembled the nucleus of the lineup and provided the guitar work for both the Nice lineup and the ongoing band.
While the album provides a unique perspective on the many aspects of Emerson’s music, Keith cautions that it doesn’t represent the work that he plans with the current Keith Emerson Band lineup in the future, since it was recorded very early in their association together.

Keith Emerson has long been admired as being one of the finest keyboard players of the last thirty odd years, not only in the rock field but also the Jazz and classical movements too.
Thankfully Keith has decided against that option and the truth is far more engaging and to be fair far more entertaining than any cut and paste job would have been.
Although the book covers Keith's life right up to the present it does rather skimp on details towards the end so I am hoping that Keith will find the time to perhaps write volume two as he says in the introduction he is looking forward to furthering his life in music.

 KEITH EMERSON WITH THE NICE
The real distinction between The Nice and ELP is what happens around Keith Emerson; Carl Palmer and Greg Lake were both given bigger roles than Lee Jackson and Brian Davison (and deservedly so).
Otherwise, you could take Emerson’s barrelhouse solo on “Hang On To A Dream” or his playing on the opening “Fantasia” from The Five Bridges and transplant it safely into the subsequent work of ELP without anyone knowing the difference.
Note that the double album was reissued in the 1980s under the same ID # (SRM 2 6500) but with different labels (the skyscraper ones) and slightly edited language on the front cover that no longer identifies the set as a combined offering of The Five Bridges and Elegy.
