His political enemies have referred to him during question period as "Pol Pot" or "the Honourable Member for Cambodia" due to supportive articles he wrote about the Khmer Rouge regime and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan before he was an MP which were tabled in the house.
However charges that he was a Maoist were withdrawn by Dr Michael Cullen after Locke protested that he had never supported the Chinese regime and there was no evidence for this.

Locke had pledged before New Zealand's general election on Sept. 17 that he would run naked down Broadway if right-wing candidate Rodney Hide was returned to Parliament in the Auckland electorate of Epsom.
Locke carried through on his election promise Sunday, stripping down to a pair of swimming trunks and a thin coat of body paint which made it look like he was wearing a suit.

Keith Locke is concerned that US firms are getting rich off this, saying "When $US6 billion dollars is at stake there would be a pretty big temptation to pass on "incidentally acquired" intelligence to US firms".
Unfortunately for Keith his two examples relate to instances of _bribery_ on the part of the poor, unadvantaged European companies.
Keith's probably concerned he's gonna miss out on a whole lot of 'goodwill [$$$$$!!!] from European governments' when he's a senior member of parliament, and the government's back in the business of buying big ticket items.

Locke promised to do that (probably knowing, like you, that Banks broke his promise) and, even armed with the knowledge that Banks welshed, decided to promise and welsh also.
Lockes promise to run naked was a political decision, his actual act was not, it was a commitment to the promise.
