Keith Olbermann - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Keith Olbermann (born January 27, 1959 in New York City) is an American news anchor, commentator and radio sportscaster.
Olbermann's ratings are often 4th for cable news in his timeslot, behind O'Reilly at Fox News, Paula Zahn at CNN, and Nancy Grace at CNN Headline News, and his is the 12th-most watched nightly cable news program overall.
Olbermann says that one difference between the coverage of the Lewinsky scandal and his criticism of the Bush administration is that with the rapid-fire format of Countdown, he doesn't have to cover a single story (or even politics in general) for an entire hour.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Olbermann crumples up his notes and throws them at the camera, which "shatters" (a digital video effect) and the next show begins, unless the day's news is dominated by a somber story, in which case the shatter effect is skipped.
Olbermann began the rivalry on May 5, 2003 when after doing a piece of Sen. Joseph McCarthy's famous 1950's communist "witch hunt", when he said that "it was like shooting fish in a barrel, much like how Bill O'Reilly does his show." Over the next three years, the rivalry has grown to enormous proportions.
Olbermann responded to O'Reilly's charge of cheap shots by noting that O'Reilly said the Catholic Church was against Christmas and his endorsement of a terrorist attack on San Francisco on his radio show.

Keith Olbermann is spotlighted in on my home page not only because he is a role model as I steer into the perilous waters of modern journalism, but also because he is a significant contrarian influence in media.
This is the age of the video clip, and although he made a name for himself narrating video clips, Olbermann remains one of the finest ambassadors of the written and spoken word to the world of television.

Olbermann's first question was on the current dispute between McCain/Warner/Graham and the Bush administration on the administration appearing to disregard an act of Congress: What did Swann think about the split within the Republican party, and which side was he on?
Olbermann, in one of the sweetest comebacks I've heard in a long time, responded that if Swann wanted a state question, he had one: Senator Rick Santorum is talking smack about going after federal funding for New Jersey if they won't agree to dredge the Delaware River.
Olbermann, very quietly and with as much polite snark as he could possibly get away with, suggested that Swann may want to make a note of that one, and threw it back to Patrick with the question, "Are you glad you wanted to do that now?"
