Tranquillity is the keynote of this glacier-scarred park situated 160 km southwest of Halifax in southwestern Nova Scotia.
In the past, most of the park was logged over and burned, but the primeval character of the forest is once again intact, and scattered stands of ancient hemlocks can still be found.

This data shows that the number of loon pairs in Kejimkujik National Park remains stable at approximately 39 pairs.
Common loons at Kejimkujik have been monitored since the early 1980's to try to gain knowledge of which lakes were being occupied, what areas were important for nesting, and to what extent breeding was successful.
In January of 1996 a report was released by Neil Burgess, of the Canadian Wildlife Service, indicating loons in Kejimkujik had mercury levels in their blood approximately three times the level found elsewhere in the Maritimes.
