I was Kellie's high school theatre teacher at Lamar High School in Houston, Texas, and I have many wonderful memories of working with her, talking with her and watching her grow as a performer and as a young person.
Kelly was star material not because she was beautiful, which she assuredly was, and not because she had incredible talent, which she did, but because she was tremendously dedicated to developing her craft—I knew when I saw her that she was going stronger than ever, just like in high school.
Kellie did not get the part but I was blown away by her talent and ability—and we stayed in touch over the years and I always admired her work and wanted to try and work together on something down the line.
