	Kelmscott Manor Home of William Morris
		Kelmscott Manor a grade 1 listed Tudor farmhouse adjacent to the River Thames was built in 1570, with an additional wing added to the northeast corner in about 1665.
		The Manor is built of local limestone on the edge of the village of Kelmscott.
		He considered it so natural in its setting as to be almost organic, it looked to him as if it had "grown up out of the soil"; and with "quaint garrets amongst great timbers of the roof where of old times the tillers and herdsmen slept".

	Kelmscott Press
		Kelmscott was the culmination of Morris's life as a craftsman in many diverse fields.
		Noteworthy for their harmony of type and illustration, Morris' main prioirity was to have each book seen a a whole: this included taking painstaking care with all aspects of production, incuding the paper, the form of type, the spacing of the letters, and the position of the printed matter on the page.
		Kelmscott books re-awakened the ideals of book design and inspired better standards of production at a time when the printed page was generally at its poorest.

		The two men co-leased Kelmscott Manor in Oxfordshire, but Morris refused to live there while his wife and Rossetti were in residence.
		They were specially designed to contribute to the total visual effect of the Kelmscott book, alongside the type, woodcut illustrations, paper, and ink, and were later imitated by scores of commercial and fine presses in England and (especially) the U.S. The initials were produced using a modern electrotyping process.
		The effect produced by the intensely fl Kelmscott ink, which rides on the surface of the vellum instead of sinking into paper, is a stunning one.
