Kelsey is a small rural hamlet on the central prairies of Alberta, Canada.

In 1992, with the Kelsey Hall on the verge of being closed, a group of people who had acted in other local shows met at the hall, looked it over and proposed the idea of having a dinner theatre.

 Welcome to Alberta, Canada
Alberta is the leading beekeeping province of Canada, with some beekeepers wintering hives indoors in specially designed barns in southern Alberta, then migrating north during the summer into the Peace River valley where the season is short but the working days are long for honeybees to produce honey from clover and fireweed.
Alberta also has a large Hutterite population, a communal Anabaptist sect similar to the Mennonites, and a significant population of Seventh-day Adventists in and around the Lacombe area due to the presence of the Canadian University College.
Central and northern Alberta and the region farther north is the nesting-ground of the migratory birds.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Saskatchewan and Alberta
Alberta's best farming-lands are in the northern interior (the region of which Edmonton is the centre), and this extends much farther north than in Saskatchewan, while the southern portion of Alberta, being rather high and of lighter soil, is better adapted to stock-raising.
In Alberta the present (1911) population is given as 372,919, its two chief cities, Calgary and Edmonton (the capital), having of late grown rapidly.
What is now Saskatchewan and Alberta had been for five years governed from Ottawa, under the name of North-West Territories, when, in 1875, some sort of autonomy was granted them, and the Catholics settled therein were accorded the right of having their own schools without contributing to the maintenance of any others.

 REINVENTION AND RETRENCHMENT
Alberta is an interesting extension of the New Zealand model for three reasons.
As in Alberta, the idea is to divert operating surpluses to debt reduction, to balance the budget over the economic cycle, and to boost public sector net worth.
New Zealand and Alberta's contrasting efforts to balance budgets and reinvent government suggest that left governments in general are probably more likely to pursue and succeed at the reinvention of government, while stinting fiscal balance, and that right governments are more likely to achieve short run fiscal balance at the expense of successful reinvention.

Catholic World News : Canadian Judge Rules Unborn Child Of No Value
CALGARY, Alberta, Jan. 30, 01 (CWNews.com/LSN.ca) - Justice Patricia Rowbotham of Alberta's Court of Queen's Bench has ruled that a full-term baby who died during childbirth is not a child and therefore the parents are not due compensation for bereavement in her death.
Parents Martin and Mary Bertoia were awarded $60,000 in damages for the admitted negligence of their physician, Dr. Lynn Marriott, but were refused an additional $25,000 for the loss of the baby, Kelsey Lee, on the grounds that the law does not consider the baby a child.
"The anomaly in this case is if Kelsey Lee Martin had been born alive and died at any time thereafter due to negligence, (the parents) would have a claim," said Rowbotham.
