Kemble village straddles the busy A429 with the older part of the village with a number of 19th century buildings and All Saints parish church on the east side and the modern mixture of private and local authority housing and the railway station and village pub on the west side.
Kemble became an important part of the railway system becoming a major junction on Isambard Kingdom Brunel's railway line from Swindon to the west and the branch lines from Cirencester and Tetbury, and is still important for passengers travelling to or from Cirencester and the surrounding area.
Kemble airfield on the southern edge of the village is a former RAF airfield.

The building stones of the Great Oolite are mainly oolitic freestones, viz, the varieties of Bath stone quarried and mined in the neighborhood of that city (Corsham Down, Monks Park, Coombe Down, Odd Down, Box Ground, andc.) and more shelly Jimestones like the Taynton and Milton stone.
The slates are brown calcareous sandstone, grey and slightly oolitic calcareous sandstone, and blue and grey oolitic limestone.

I've never been to Kemble Air Display before so I didn't really know what to expect.
I trundled down to the Gloucestershire airfield with Nick Challoner in his new motor which is very comfy for such a long trip.
We elected to take the A429 from the M4 rather than the A419 which probably wasn't the best route to take but it took us past Hullavington airfield with its limestone C type hangars and grass covered hangars.

The weather usually takes a turn for the worse when it comes to the August Bank Holiday but this year was the exception, brilliant sunshine, good visibility and warm temperatures.
It was a pleasant drive down the M4 and through the quaint Cotswold villages to Kemble, ex-home of the Red Arrows but now an increasing haven for classic jets.
There were a fair few people around already and of course a nice line up of jets in front of Delta Jets' hangar including 'Winston' the Meteor F8 and the odd JP.

In October 1997 it made its final flight to Kemble, with a flypast at Filton en-route, and is maintained in near airworthy condition by the enthusiastic volunteers of the Britannia Aircraft Preservation Trust.

The Cotswold village of Kemble is well connected - it has a railway station on the Swindon to Gloucester line, it's on the main road from Chippenham and Malmesbury to Cirencester, and it has an airfield where the largest of aircraft can land...
I have even see a 747 (Jumbo Jet) there.
There's an aircraft museum and storage on the site, and from time to time old aircraft are broken up at Kemble.
