The objective of the Kemper Museum school tour program is to engage students in discussion about modern and contemporary art and how it relates to students’ education and lives.
Fifth-grade classroom and art teachers from Center School and Kansas City, Missouri, School Districts are part of the Museum’s Fifth-Grade Busing Program, generously funded by the John Tait Foundation.
Fifth-grade teachers are encouraged to work together with their school’s art teachers to integrate aspects of the Museum’s tours into the classroom curriculum.

She states, “[U]ntil relatively recently museum professionals, although avid collectors by nature and necessity, generally did not recognize the importance of documenting their own activities by collecting, maintaining, and making accessible the records of their institutions.” The publication of this book represents a major milestone in advancing the role of museum archives in every museum.
It was this grantor that awarded 24 museum archives development projects between 1978 and 1988, ushering in the museum archives movement, and representing the birth of the museum archivist community.

The reason I accepted the position of Kemper Museum director was because I was intrigued by the opportunity of education a general public about the fascinating world of contemporary art.
This surprised me. I thought, given the content of the museum (a primarily African-American invented art form) or the concept of 18th and Vine (the revitalization of the birthplace of jazz and blues) or its location in the heart of an historic fl community, that it would be an obvious winner in the African-American community.

It is a big museum in terms of physical size and the size of its collections.
Their collection is eclectic: Impressionist paintings, Henry Moore sculptures, modern and contemporary art, medieval European art, Ancient (including Egyptian) art, Asian art, etc. The museum also has excellent sculptures on its grounds.
