Holland solidified his respect throughout the league as he orchestrated one of the most amazing 24-hour periods in NHL history in his second season's trade deadline day (March 23, 1999).
Holland, 50, was elevated to his present position on July 18, 1997.

 The Beginning
Ken was now in his teenage years, and was a very ambitious young man. His life long work pattern started showing at an early age by delivering papers, operating an ice house at the housing project and working at the Navy air base on Whidbey Island.
Ken and his family were settled in their new home on Similk Bay and they really liked it.
Ken still worked in the plywood mill, but this didn’t stop his love of the sea, and in 1956 he learned that an old fellow across the bay had a boat with some crab pots for sale.

Team Canada general manager Ken Holland told CBC Sports Sunday that he will wait until the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs are over to name the squad that will play at the May 5-21 tournament in Riga, Latvia.
Holland, who is also the GM of the Detroit Red Wings, confirmed that several players are already in: Pittsburgh rookie Sidney Crosby, Phoenix centre Mike Comrie, Columbus goalie Marc Denis, and Boston forwards Brad Boyes and Patrice Bergeron.
