For two hundred years between the middle of the twelfth century and the middle of the fourteenth century the town of Kenfig was a thriving community.
The castle and town of Kenfig were therefore founded in order to establish greater control over the local people and in particular to secure the crossing of the River Kenfig.
Kenfig was a borough as well as a town.

The earliest forms of the name of Kenfig town also tend to show the connection with John and his ancestors as it appears as ‘Chenefeg’, ‘Kenefeg’, and ‘Kenefec’ in documents belonging to the period 1147-1169.
Kenfig seems to have been a particular target during the period from 1147-1321, and we have found firm evidence of at least nine attacks upon it with circumstantial evidence for another two.
It is rather surprising that amidst all this unrest the town of Kenfig somehow survived.

The Kenfig Borough suffered from the encroachment of sand dunes and was forced to move to Pyle in 1471.
The ancient Borough of Kenfig virtually came to an end when its corporation was dissolved in 1886 as a direct result of The Municipal Corporations Act 1883.

 Kenfig National Nature Reserve
Glamorgan’s largest natural lake, Kenfig Pool, is set on the edge of this beautiful area, with spectacular views from Sker beach across Swansea Bay to the Gower.
The land is owned by the Trustees of the Kenfig Corporation Property – successors to the burgesses of the medieval borough – but is leased and managed by Bridgend County Borough Council.
Kenfig National Nature Reserve can be reached from Junction 37 of the M4 Motorway and is signposted from North Cornelly, Pyle and Porthcawl.

Tondu’s forwards put Kenfig Hill under pressure from the start and in the opening seconds their pack created a platform ten metres that set loose Owen Watkins who jinked over for a well worked individual try.
Kenfig Hill were very well organised and built up some very effective phases of play that put the visitors under pressure and it took a very strong tackle from Joseph Symons to keep them out.
Kenfig Hill put up a far stronger defence in the second half, and it took superb solo tries from Owain Cotter and Joseph Symons to make it 38-0 at full-time.

Kenfig appearred happy to play on the counter attack but were punished when Steve Binding cut in from the right to unleash a devastating left foot screamer from 40 yards (18 really) straight into the corner of the net.
The Graig were lucky to see their debutant keeper Leyton James stay on the pitch after a collision with Kenfig's striker on the edge of the box, but a fast and furious last 10 minutes petered out for Graig FC to record their 4th league win in a row.
