Kenji Kawai - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kenji Kawai (川井憲次 Kawai Kenji, born April 23, 1957 in Shinagawa, Tokyo) is a Japanese composer with several film scores to his credit.
Having composed a variety of soundtracks ranging from anime to horror (Ringu, Ringu 2, Dark Water), Kawai has established himself as one of the most recognisable composers of his time.
Kenji has also done the music for the Ultra Series, particularly Ultraman Nexus (2004).

Side-port forceps allow better control in difficult CCC cases - Forceps improvements include curve angle, modified tip, ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
Kawai, associate professor and chairman of the department of ophthalmology at the Tokai University School of Medicine, Japan, said that he developed the 23-gauge forceps in order to establish better control of the capsule and enable smooth handling while maximizing the surgeon's field of vision during the CCC.
Kawai said the Kawai forceps solved the difficulties of capturing the anterior capsule near the incision site, which he had encountered when using the other side-port forceps, and which have been widely considered a disadvantage of instruments.
Kawai said that, using his forceps, he was able to apply the incision along the line of opacity while maintaining the capsule.

Furthermore, Kenji Kawai, the score composer, is a musical genius by composing his music using traditional Japanese instruments, chants, underground temple-accoustics, and many other melodic details too complex to discuss.
This time, with the advancement of CG and recording/mastering techniques, Kenji Kawai was able to expand on the first theme to create a far better musical cue with breathtaking animation.
The contrast between the dissonant chanting composed by Kawai, the visual montage, and Motoko's character is one of the best moments in animation history.

Innocence - Music from the Movies
Kenji Kawai’s musical score for Mamoru Oshii’s Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence (perhaps the most brilliant anime visualization we’ve yet seen) is every bit the match for Oshii’s breathtaking imagery.
Kawai’s ambiences are conveyed through contrasting droning and piercing synth elements over discordant percussion.
Kawai, who also scored Oshii’s original Ghost In The Shell as well as Avalon, Vampire Princess Miyu, Patlabor, and other notable animes, has provided a score that is simply enthralling, offering a depth of musical texture that never grows stale and embodies the multilayered sensibility of the film with a fascinating musical design.

Most songs are rather short(usually not more than 2 minutes) but somehow it never seemed to bother me. The quality of the intrumentation and composition makes up for it more than enough.
Kenji Kawai is the acclaimed composer of this music and it's a shame some people just doesn't seem to get enough recognition for their works.
For all others, people have different tastes, but if you somewhat like dark, melancholic or sad soundtracks you will adore this one.Truth to be told, Kenji Kawai outdid himself on this score, no discussion about it.

Avalon is a haunting visual meditation on the nature of reality, and Kawai’s score here set the tone for most of the scenes, allowing the dreamlike images to grab onto us emotionally.

 Anime Tempy
There are plenty of dramatic moments, while decent, never really strike a chord with me. Part of the reason for this is caused by the show's occasional boring presentation.
The art and animation are well done, but there are often too many pauses between lines, and the music by veteran Kenji Kawai is rather listless and uninspiring, and is sometimes missing from scenes which would have benefited from some heartfelt music.
Besides the dramatics, the show also has some light touches, not gut-bustingly funny, but it does add some texture to the characters.

looks cheap (especially some of the demon make-up, which is sub-Buffy) yet ravishing -- Magnat puts together a colorful piece of eye candy, wedded to a propulsive techno beat by Kenji Kawai (who scored Ghost in the Shell and Ringu).
The fight sequences are about on par with Buffy, sometimes pushed over the top by absurdist touches (such as Vena Cava's deadly boots or the head-exploding spray Mallory keeps in a cross on her belt -- you wonder why she doesn't use it more often, though).
