The name Kennesaw is derived from the Cherokee Indian "Gah-nee-sah" meaning cemetery, or burial ground.
The Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, fought here between General William Tecumseh Sherman of the Union army and Joseph E. Johnston of the Confederate army, took place between June 18, 1864 and July 2, 1864.
Established as Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Site on February 8, 1917, it was transferred from the War Department on August 10, 1933, and redesignated on June 26, 1935.

We continued, reached the road which comes up around the mountain from the visitor's center, crossed the road and continued straight up, to the very top, the highest point.
Going up the road affords a the wonderful view of Stone Mountain and as you round the curve near the top onto the South side of the Mountain you will see wide panoramic view of Little Kennasaw and Pidgeon Hill, which would be the tail, if Kennesaw Mountain was a bulldog.

 Barely a Sprint signal on Kennesaw Mountain
I've been on top of a lot of mountains with my CDMA phone(Verizon) and never experienced pilot pollution problems, even though my phone was able to 'see' tons of towers.
It seems like the signal is very poor at the parking lot on the top of the mountain, but once you walk to the actual top the signal becomes strong again.
In Chattanooga, which is basically surrounded by mountains, carriers generally avoid the problem by having sites atop Lookout, Signal, White Oak, etc. mountains -- something that's impossible to do in state or national parks or forests, hence the issues at Kennesaw Mountain, Stone Mountain, etc.
