Tsiame Kenneth Mopeli was the former Chief Minister of the South African bantustan of QwaQwa.
Born in Namahadi on September 20 1930, Mopeli gained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) at the University of South Africa in 1954 and worked as a teacher and radio announcer for the South African Broadcasting Corporation before being nominated for membership of the QwaQwa Territorial Authority.

In February 1987, Chief Minister Mopeli, apparently in an attempt to avoid exacerbating student protests, issued a statement denying rumours of incorporation.

We were joined by Inyandza Party of Kangwane and by the Dikwakwentla Party from the Free State under Dr Mopeli.
It was there that I attended lectures with Fatima Meer under Professor Kenneth Kirkwood, and I soon met Ismail Meer, Debhi Singh and other respected Indian leaders such as Dr Monty Naiker and JN Singh in Durban.
