DALLAS, Texas.… Kenny Brack was smiling wide Saturday morning at Parkland Hospital as he was wheeled from the intensive care unit to a private room.
Brack is still listed in satisfactory condition at Parkland Hospital with injuries that included a fractured right femur, a fractured sternum and lumbar vertebrae and fractures to both ankles.
Brack is expected to remain at Parkland Hospital for several more days and will eventually be transferred to Indianapolis to begin rehabilitation for his injuries.

Kenny Brack learned to drive on the icy roads of his native Sweden, a far cry from the high-speed oval tracks that he patrols today.
Brack, a winner on road racing circuits worldwide, was tabbed an "oval rookie" when he hit the scene at Phoenix for the 1997 Indy Racing League contest on the quick one-mile oval.
Brack made a shambles of the competition the previous season (1992) in the Renault Clio Series with nine victories and one runner-up finishes and clinched the championship.

Sweden's Kenny Brack, who suffered multiple fractures in a crash at the Texas 500 IRL race on Sunday, remains in a serious but stable condition after surgery on his lower back.
Brack, the IRL champion in 1998 and Indy 500 winner in 1999, locked wheels with South African Tomas Scheckter, the son of ex-Formula One world champion Jody, on the back straight heading for turn three and his Team Rahal car was flipped into the air.
Brack was taken to the infield care center at the track before being airlifted to the Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Kenny's next IRL start was the 1997 "Indianapolis 500." Of course it really wasn't a start as Kenny and the other drivers in row five never made it to the green flag.
Kenny took the Galles Monsoon G Force to a pair of fifths at Charlotte and New Hampshire later in the 1997 season.
Brack went by Gordon apparently thinking he was running to the checkered flag and A.J. Foyt had to remind Kenny that there was still one lap remaining.

Kenny was driving the No. 15 Pioneer/Miller Lite/Honda/Dallara at the Texas Motor Speedway on October 12th when he suffered massive injuries, including a fractured right femur, fractured sternum, fractured lumbar L3 vertebrae, and fractures to both ankles.
During the course of Kenny's surgery on his spine, which was on the day after the injury, I think on the 13th, as the backside of the spine was being stabilized, he developed what's called a dural tear or a leak of spinal fluid through the dura.
BRACK: I think that I had kind of a subconscious understanding of what was going on because one thing that I can say that has struck me as very -- well, I've been kind of pleasantly surprised about it is, during this whole process, I haven't had one negative thought in my mind.
