This station is relatively quiet compared to its busy past, although a large number of freight trains pass through the station, as well as Eurostar trains travelling to the depot complex at North Pole.

Hilton Olympia is a short walk to the Kensington Olympia train station which has a decent train service to LGW if that suits your travel plans.
Olympia is on Kensington High Street, which has a variety of pubs, restaurants etc withing 10 minutes walk and is a nice area.
Near the Olympia hilton is a great little gastropub (with good fish) called the Scarsdale on Edwardes square (just off Kensington high street before the Odeon cinema) look it up on the best mapping site for the UK www.streetmap.co.uk.

Pre-1949 this route was known as the Inner Circle, there being an Outer Circle route which diverted along the Hammersmith & City Line from Paddington to Latimer Road, then via a station at Uxbridge Road to Addison Road, now known as Kensington (Olympia), rejoining the Inner Circle at South Kensington.
Only two small sections of track are unique to the Circle Line- a tiny connecting section between Aldgate and Tower Hill stations (which is so small that trains turning off onto the District Line can see the platforms at Aldgate and vice-versa) and another connection between Gloucester Road and High Street Kensington.
However the route continued to appear on the tube map for another seven years until Addison Road was renamed Kensington (Olympia).

From Kensington and South Kensington use phone 0845 7 48 49 50 to learn times of trains (usually 37 minutes past each hour), take a taxi to Kensington Olympia station, and take the hourly train 45 minutes to Gatwick.
Just wanted to add that the City Thameslink(Ludgate Circus near St Pauls) is a very good station to pick up the Thameslink Service to Gatwick as it is very quiet and there is an escalator service (not a particularly long one) down to the platform.
IMHO it would be easier to get a bus from the Strand/Charing Cross to this station rather than to London Bridge.
