Kent International Airport ( IATA airport code : MSE) is an airport, formerly a Royal Air Force airbase (RAF Manston), in Kent, England.
The airfield became a joint civilian and RAF airport from 1960 and was thence employed for occasional package tour and cargo flights, alongside its continuing role as an RAF base.
Kent International Airport was initially a 38 acre (150,000 m²) civilian area within the former RAF Manston including the existing terminal building and an apron where passengers embark and the largest of freighters may be loaded.

From July 1950 to June 1958 USAAF fighters, fighter bombers, such as F-84 Thunderstreaks, F-86 Sabres, T-6 Harvards, and T-33s all with support aircraft, and air-sea rescue H-16 Albatross 'amphibians', were operational at Manston.
In view of its runway, the fourth longest in the UK, Manston has also been listed by NASA although never used, as an emergency diversionary landing strip for the space shuttle program.
