Commander Kent Rominger sent down a video inspection of the mufflers installed on portions of the air circulating duct work, explaining that the mufflers are causing some of the flexible ductwork to collapse.
Rominger is a native of Del Norte, Colorado and Husband is a native of Amarillo, Texas.
Rominger and Husband were joined on the flight deck for entry and landing by Flight Engineer Ellen Ochoa and Mission Specialist Julie Payette, while Mission Specialists Tammy Jernigan, Dan Barry and Valery Tokarev were seated down in the middeck.

The mission focused on materials science, biotechnology, combustion science, the physics of fluids, and numerous scientific experiments housed in the pressurized Spacelab module.

Rominger went out of his way to thank the technicians who repaired his ship and hauled it to and from pad 39B, saying "I know the thermal protection guys worked hard and did a phenomenal job of getting Discovery's tank patched back up after the hail storm a couple of weeks ago.
Rominger and flight engineer Ellen Ochoa mounted a centerline camera in the shuttle's docking module to provide views of the station's docking port during final approach.

Kent V. Rominger (Capt., USN), 44, Endeavour's commander, is making his fifth flight into space, his second flight as commander and his second flight to the International Space Station.
While Endeavour is docked to the space station, Rominger will play an active part in the transfer of cargo from Endeavour and the Multi-Purpose Logistics Module Raffaello to the ISS.
Rominger flew as pilot on STS-73 in 1995, STS-80 in 1996 and STS-85 in 1997.

Comments from both Rominger and Winston Scott, a space veteran and executive director of the Florida Space Authority, come on the heels of a scathing report from the board that investigated the Feb. 1 Columbia accident that destroyed a $2 billion orbiter and killed seven astronauts.
Rominger, however, noted that the ability of the Astronaut Office to oversee safety of flight issues has diminished in recent years.
The office, he noted, now has to keep track of issues not only with the shuttle program but also the space station project and plans for the proposed Orbital Space Plane, which is supposed to serve as a crew transport to the outpost beginning around 2008 to 2010.

Taking control of the manoeuvering thrusters from his position at the back of the flight deck, Commander Kent Rominger carefully guided the 110 tonne spacecraft in a circular flight around the space station before slowly bringing it into alignment with the station's docking module and bringing the two spacecraft together.
As soon as the docking ring of the ISS was fully retracted into Discovery's payload bay, the crew performed a pressurization check on the station, to ensure it could maintain a safe air supply.
Once that was complete, Rominger and Pilot Rick Husband briefly entered the station and cleared a few obstructions from the doorway of the ISS to make for an easier job of moving in equipment and supplies over the course of the mission.
