  Al-Ahram Weekly | Books | Tomb tales
Kent Weeks's account of the steps that led to his discovery of this tomb, of the significance of its labyrinthine corridors and of the relics found in its debris-choked chambers makes for exciting reading, and it is with special delight that I review his book.
Kent is not a small man, and he had to force his frame beneath the lintel of the doorway.
Kent's aim has not been to present a technical treatise but to describe the practice of archaeological work in one of the most famous royal cemeteries in the world; in so doing, he has succeeded in giving the reader a sense of the emotional appeal of excavation and discovery.

 Q&A: Kent Weeks--AllYourTV.com
In 1995, archaeologist Kent Weeks made one of the most important discoveries in the study of ancient Egypt when he uncovered the entrance to KV 5, a massive "lost tomb" in Egypt's Valley of the Kings.
And it was here that Weeks found a skull that could be that of the firstborn son of the legendary king Rameses II, the pharaoh traditionally identified with the biblical story of Moses and the Book of Exodus.
Kent Weeks: When I read the broken inscription that said "Amun-her," (which Weeks found in a chamber in KV 5 in the Valley of the Kings) I realized this must be the tomb of Amun-her-khepeshef, Rameses' eldest son.

Kent Weeks, an Egyptologist with the American University in Cairo, embarked in 1988 on one final exploration of the old dumping ground.
The carvings and inscriptions Weeks and his colleagues have seen, along with thousands of artifacts littering the floors--including beads, fragments of jars that were used to store the organs of the deceased, and mummified body parts--promise to tell historians an enormous amount about ancient Egypt during the reign of its most important king.
Weeks estimates that it will take at least five years to study and map the entire tomb, protect the decorations, install climate controls and electricity and shore up the precarious sections.
