Kerala Natanam (Kerala Dance) is a new style of dancing evolved from Kathakali a form of Indian dance-drama.
The Indian dancer Guru Gopinath and his wife Thankamani Gopinath who was the first student of Mohiniyattam in Kerala Kalamandalam developed and stylised this dance by blending Indian classical dance techniques and modernism.
Kerala natanam does not use a set dress code, but assumes a suitable dress for the character(s) presented.

I realize this is true all over the subcontinent, but it's especially disheartening to grow up in the diaspora hearing so much about Kerala's matrilineal heritage and the strong willedness of Malayali women only to find that the reality doesn't quite live up to the mythology...
There's also a tragic (but too often true) saying that Malayalis are like crabs, as in they are quick to reach out with their pointy little claws and pull down those who try to escape.
the muslims of kerala actually have relatively close historical ties to arabia...unlike most sunnis in south asia they are shafi as opposed to hanafi, and some of their kazis emigrated from hadhramaut.
