Note began his career in the public service as an agricultural economist attached to the Division of Agriculture under the Trust Territory District Department of Natural Resources in late 1974.
Note was elected to the first Constitutional Nitijela (parliament) in April 1979, and appointed to the Cabinet as Minister of Resources and Development.
Note is married to the former Mary Neimoj Yamamura.

Kessai Note made history in early 2000 by becoming the first commoner to be elected president of the Marshall Islands, where traditional power remains strong and, until recently, there had been little change in a political environment once dominated by traditional leaders.
Note and Ruben R. Zackhras, then-Con-Con president and veteran politician, headed a team that held public meetings on far-flung and sparsely populated islands to get people¹s reaction to the first draft of the new constitution.
Although Note in his characteristically modest way downplays the significance of his actions, they were a dramatic part of political developments that have changed the political landscape in the nation since the death of the first President Amata Kabua in late 1996.

Kessai Note was born on Ailinglaplap Atoll in 1950, the second oldest in a family of 10.
Note’s parents wanted him to become a preacher and sent him to Ebeye to attend Ebeye Christian Elementary School that was being run by Rev. Jude Samson, Note’s cousin.
Note handled Internal Affairs and Transportation and Communications portfolios until 1987, when Kabua tapped him as Speaker of the Nitijela, a post he held until his election as president in 2000.

 Seahawks visitor shows his presidential preference
Kessai Note, president of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, visited the headquarters of the defending NFC champions on Thursday because, as a member of his entourage explained, Note is a big Seahawks fans.
Note said he has followed the career of Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren, and the presence of middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu and tight end Itula Mili on the roster only increased his interest in the team.
Note was the first commoner to be elected president by the parliament in 2000 and was re-elected in 2004.

It turns out President Note has been a fan of pro football for many years, but his love of the sport was deepened by the Seahawks fantastic 2005 season, and he became a Seahawks fan as a result.
The Seahawks exchanged gifts with President Note to begin the visit, and he was given a tour of the Seahawks facility where he met some of the players along the way.
President Note was elected to his position in January of 2000 in the culmination of a career in politics that began in 1974.

President Kessai Note led his entire Cabinet and heads of government ministries and agencies to this week's Majuro Chamber of Commerce meeting - producing a standing room only turnout of business people and members of the local community, including high school students.
President Note opened the meeting with a short speech outlining accomplishments of his administration, saying among other things that his has been the only government to engage in such wide-ranging consultations with the public that produced “road maps” for development such as Vision 2018 and Meto 2000 (a detailed economic analysis of the RMI).

Marshall Islands President Kessai Note's Government had secured the approval of Parliament and the US Congress for a new, 20-year funding extension for its Compact with the United States.
Prime Minister Note, who ran unopposed in his district, has held a 19 14 majority in Parliament since he took office in January 2000.
The vote was twenty for Senator Note and nine for Senator Justin Debrum, of the opposition.

On Tuesday, December 19, RMI President Kessai H. Note expressed his deep condolences on the passing of the late Senator Justin deBrum.
President Note visited with the family of the late Senator late Sunday night after receiving word of his death in Majuro.
According to the release from his Office, President Note is expected to declare a State of National Mourning with all flags to fly at half-mast.
