Prestige was attached to the Russian language because it was the language for education and of culture and administration.
Ket tradition has it that their ancestors were driven northwards by the "mountain people" and that they had to cross ranges of mountains before they came to Siberia.

The main areas of the Kets' dwelling are the Turukhansk district of the Krasnoyarsk region (574 or 53 % of all the Kets of Russia), and the Baikit district of the Evenki Autonomous Area, that is also situated in the Krasnoyarsk territory (178).
The Kets live in the middle flow of the Enisei and its tributaries from the Podkamennaya Tunguska river in the South to the Kureyka river in the North in the settlements Vorogovo, Bor, Sulomai, Sumarokovo, Bakhta, Verkhne-Imbatsk, Kellog, Vereshagino, Baklanikha, Goroshikha, Surgutikha, Pakulikha, Turukhansk, Farkovo, Serkovo, Maduyka.

The four-branch Na-Dene language family is made up of the three single languages--Haida, Tlingit, and Eyak--which are spoken along the coastline of western Canada and southern Alaska, and the Athabaskan group of languages.
These Athabaskan languages are found in interior Alaska and western Canada as well as certain parts of the Pacific coast of Oregon and California and in the American Southwest (Navajo, Apache).
