  Keta (Myst) Information
Keta (D'ni: Kehtah/[Keta]), originally named Leira but renamed by Gehn, was from a group of people known as the Amad — which is what the D'ni called those encountered on the Surface above the Great Cavern.
Keta contracted an illness while she was pregnant and died giving birth to Gehn's son, Atrus.
Gehn believed that Keta's people were related to the D'ni, which Uru confirms through veiled hints: there are indications that some D'ni made their way to the surface in the past.

 D'ni
The concept for the D'ni kingdom and the word "Dunny" came from a novel that Myst creator Robyn Miller was writing about a cavernous underground empire and a boy who discovers that this empire is actually his long-lost home.
As it is described (and later seen in Uru: Ages Beyond Myst), the Cleft has rooms carved into each side of the cleftwall, with several rope bridges spanning the gap.
Further to this, however, in Myst V: End of Ages a new character, Esher, pronounces it with a strong (presumably D'ni) accent as // (duch'nee, where ch is pronounced as in Chanukkah or in the Scottish loch).

Atrus lost the Myst book in the fissure, and the book eventually came to Earth, where The Stranger found it and used it to go to Myst Island, where they found Atrus' library (beginning the events portrayed in Myst).

 Atrus - MYSTlore
He was raised in The Cleft by Anna, as his mother, Keta died in childbirth and Gehn had abandoned him.
As a child he showed many of the traits he would as an adult: curiosity, a fondness for projects and working with his hands, and a stoic response to loss evidenced in the death of his pet cat, Flame.
He and Catherine fell in love and he decided to repair the flaws in Riven before living with her on (what he thought to be) her Age of Myst.

 Gehn - MYSTlore
After the fall of D'ni and the death of his father Anna took him to the surface and raised him in the Cleft, but he came to blame her for the fall and eventually went out into the desert at the age of fourteen.
Atrus and Catherine escaped by linking to Catherine's Myst Island Age directly over the fissure, letting the book fall into oblivion, and knowing Gehn, he would not have had the courage to plunge himself into the fissure, although if he had, he would have certainly been pleasantly surprised.
This act, which was witnessed by a couple of natives, inspired a group of rebels, the Black Moiety, to declare themselves Gehn's enemies.

 Riven information - Search.com
In the Myst storyline this was the fifth Age written by Gehn, father of Atrus, and like all of Gehn's Ages is unstable and doomed to die.
Although Riven is the sequel to Myst it also serves as a very fitting sequel to the novel Myst: The Book of Atrus, tying up many loose ends.
Riven starts right where Myst left off, in the basement of K'veer in D'ni where Atrus was imprisoned at the end of Myst.

On Myst his two sons Sirrus and Achenar were born.

To attempt to make a long story short, Sirrus and Achenar told Catherine that Atrus had used the Green Book in the Fireplace, and asked her to follow him when she returned from wherever it was she'd gone.
However, I beat Myst 1 before Riven, but didn't remember anything about such case, but it sounds like what was written on a sheet of paper on the Myst island (that tells Catherine to input the amount of swithes on the device).
