Ketagalan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ketagalan 凱達格蘭 is a Taiwanese aboriginal tribe originating in what is now the Taipei Basin.
On 21 March 1996, the road in front of the Presidential Building was renamed from Chiang Kai-shek Boulevard (介壽路) to Ketagalan Boulevard by the Taipei City Government to commemorate this tribe.
Traffic signs banning motorcycles and bicycles from that road were abolished at the same time.

The Ketagalan Search for Roots, sponsored by the Guests of the Land Humanist Studio with assistance from the Council of Indigenous Peoples and the Taipei city government, began on May 1 with searches in northern Taiwan for Ketagalan descendants.
Members of the Ketagalan tribe, however, appear diffusely settled, their largest settlement being at San Diao Jiao near Gongliao in Taipei County, where they are known for their anti-nuclear stance.
However, as the current effort calls upon Ketagalan members to make themselves known and assist in tracing their roots, researchers have achieved success in breaking mental barriers and discovering intermarriage by Ketagalan members in various areas.

According to a source in the institute, the idea of launching an Aboriginal studies program originated with the institute's president, Chen Shih-meng, who considers Aboriginal culture an important aspect of Taiwan's society and deserving of greater attention from both the public and the government.
Ketagalan Institute President Chen Shih-meng, however, contended on Monday that the institute was not geared exclusively to promulgating the views of any one party, neither did it belong to the DPP.
He further called on KMT Chairman Lien Chan to donate his some of his campaign funds to the establishment of a public institution similar to the Ketagalan Institute to promote studies in national development.

Although not boasting anything on par with internationally recognizable megaliths such as Stonehenge or the giant rock faces on Easter Island, there are according to James Huang, president of the Taiwan Ufology Society, plenty of less grandiose yet equally important ancient stone structures scattered throughout Taiwan.
These include everything from the pyramid being the burial chamber of a prominent Ketagalan official, to a place where the ancients worshipped, or even a message to alien beings.
Leu readily admits that although he suspects the pyramid was a Ketagalan burial site, the lack of conclusive evidence means that he has kept an open mind.

Quite possibly Asia's earliest civilization, the Ketagalan peoples were reportedly incredibly advanced for the time, with both the know-how to create household utensils, a written language and the ability to construct pyramids and megaliths.
Just how the Ketagalan could have been so advanced, however, is where the legend gets a bit sketchy and, as some believe, quite unearthly.
According to historian Lin Sheng-yi who heads the Ketagalan of Taiwan Indigenous Culture Alliance - a private organization that searches for traces of Taiwan's pre-history - the reasons behind the advanced culture had quite a bit to do with visiting UFOs and their alien crews.

The president said that with the inauguration of his government in 2000, many past problems have been solved or are in the process of being solved, but he said some problems have come from the invisible places from people's hearts, which he said are the results of whether one has firm convictions of democratic values.
