Ketchum finally released a statement apologizing for handling the contract for Armstrong Williams, who was paid $240k as a propaganda pitchman for the No Child Left Behind Act.
The apology, detailed in a New York Times story, and attributed to Ketchum CEO Ray Kotcher, said their work with Williams "did not comply with the guidelines of our agency and our industry" and reflected a "lapse in judgement." Ketchum also promised to change its policies in how it handled subcontracts with spokespeople.
The apology is a a turn for Ketchum, which put most of the blame on Williams in a previous PR Week article.
