GRAND RIVER VALLEY FORESTS AND SPOTTISWOOD LAKES - 1984 Carolinian Canada Sites
Morainic kame deposits, kettle lakes and sandy cliffs facing the Grand river in the southeast corner of the study area give the area unusual landform characteristics within the county.
The Pinehurst complex is also part of a triangular sequence of forested wilderness connected by the Grand River on one side and McCormack Swamp-Rich Woods on the other.

CELA Newsletter Article : STORM Urges Long-Term Strategy for Oak Ridges Moraine (Vol 23. No 2 April - June 1998 )
The Oak Ridges Moraine (ORM) is a well-defined landform, 200 km long, with gentle rolling hills, wooded valleys, kettle lakes, rivers, and expansive vistas.
In the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the Moraine extends from the eastern boundary of the Municipality of Clarington to the slopes of the Niagara Escarpment in the Town of Caledon in the west.
The efforts of the citizens' groups were instrumental in focusing government attention on the Oak Ridges Moraine in government reports issued in 1990 and this led to an expression of "provincial interest" as a measure of providing interim protection of the Moraine.

 Oak Ridges Moraine
As a glacial ridge formed of rolling hills, basins, kettle lakes and wetlands, it is composed of silt and debris left by receding glaciers during the last Ice Age.
Unlike the Niagara Escarpment which has a sharply defined cliff as its central point, the moraine landform is relatively extended.
Unless the moraine is itself healthy enough to provide a strong flow of cool water to the streams and rivers, it will be impossible to restore water quality in their lower reaches.

The fundamentalist-dominated state legislature in Tennessee had passed a law forbidding the teaching of any theory that denies the Divine Creation as taught in the Bible and making it a crime to teach evolutionary theory that man had descended from a lower order of animals.

Oak Ridges Moraine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Act stipulates that any development which targets the moraine or nearby areas must satisfy several conditions, most prominently that each development leave a buffer zone of 30 m between it and any hydrological feature; for a kettle lake, this measure is from the edge of the lake's catchment area.
The Oak Ridges Moraine is an ecologically sensitive geological landform in south central Ontario, Canada.
One of the most significant landforms in southern Ontario, the moraine gets its name from the rolling hills and river valleys extending 160 km from the Niagara Escarpment to Rice Lake.

However, the Oak Ridges Moraine is more than just a beautiful landform feature with its breathtaking vistas, rolling hills, wooded valleys and 'kettle' lakes.
One of Ontario's largest moraines, the Oak Ridges Moraine extends 160 kilometres from the Niagara Escarpment in the west to the Trent River system in the east, and is on average 13 kilometres wide.
The 1991 Oak Ridges Moraine Planning Study, which began as a tightly focused land use planning exercise, became a catalyst for innovative water resource studies.

 Kettle Ecosystem Description
At the other end of the landform size continuum, Kettle Ecosystems could be confused with Relict Glacial Lakebed Ecosystems, as they are, in fact, small relict glacial lakebeds.
These Kettle Ecosystem wetlands are often adjacent to Riparian, Discharge Slope, or Relict Glacial Drainageway Ecosystem wetlands that connect to streams.
Kettle Ecosystems are connected to each other by streams, adjacent kettles, or by peatlands which have formed in the Relict Glacial Drainageway Ecosystem wetlands that sometimes occur between larger kettles.
