Kevin Mitchell (baseball player) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
After a tumultuous youth which brought him three gunshot wounds as a member of a street gang, Mitchell was signed by the Mets as an amateur free agent in 1980, and played at six positions for their 1986 team which won the World Series; but he was traded to the Padres after the season.
On July 4, 1987, Mitchell was traded to the Giants as part of a multi-player trade that also sent pitchers Dave Dravecky and Craig Lefferts to San Francisco in exchange for third baseman Chris Brown and pitchers Keith Comstock, Mark Davis, and Mark Grant.
An urban legend involving Kevin Mitchell holds that during the Mets' championship run in 1986, during an argument with his then live-in girlfriend, Mitchell decapitated her cat.

Mitchell played six different positions for the World Champion New York Mets as a rookie in 1986, including 24 games at shortstop, and hit.277 to finish third in the NL Rookie of the Year voting behind Todd Worrell and Robby Thompson.
Mitchell once again succumbed to injuries in his first year with the Reds, as he played in a career-low 93 games due to a torn rotator cuff.
But Mitchell's bad attitude resurfaced in August 2000 when he was suspended for nine games for punching the opposing team's owner in the mouth during a bench-clearing brawl.

Barmes eventually changed his story, telling the Denver Post he was carrying deer meat given to him by teammate Todd Helton, not groceries, and the rookie reiterated the injury had nothing to do with an ATV ride the two men took together on Helton's property.
But the utility infielder was forever enshrined in baseball's Injury Hall of Fame with one wipe of the eyes.

A player with a centile of 15 means that 15% of the players have a higher salary.
A glut of players will be making the minimum and so it is unfair to represent some of these players within the range of 80 to 100 when they all earn the same.
The true formula of the centile is to count the number of players with a posted salary during the season and divide by 100.

Kevin was right in the girl's face, screaming at the top of his lungs.
But when Mitchell finally had an opportunity to confront Gooden, the latter insisted he hadn't said anything about the alleged cat-beheading incident (despite that fact that it was described in his autobiography), and, incredibly, Mitchell seemed perfectly satisfied with that answer:
Sometime in the early months of 2002, I flew out to San Francisco to meet with Kevin Mitchell, who was about to begin his first season as manager of the Sonoma County Crushers of the independent Western Baseball League.

Given that there are now 209 players in the Hall who were elected as players, either by the writers or veterans, if the given player is ranked among the top 209 all-time, one would think that he would fit in at the Hall, Pete Rose notwithstanding.
These are generally speaking players who did many things well but their achievements did not necessarily translate into the countable stats that voters love.

Like Cal Ripken said a few years ago, "Baseball is not an enemy sport." Yes, pitchers have to pitch inside and base runners have to break up double plays and occasionally bowl over a catcher, but beyond that, there really is no physical contact involved.
He may have been the most important player in baseball history, yet he was traded to the hated Giants after nearly a decade with Brooklyn (he of course refused the trade and retired).
Also, it was confirmed that Kevin Mitchell, 1989 NL MVP with the San Francisco Giants and player/coach last year with the Crushers, will be the hitting coach this year.

The second work was in the 2003 Baseball Prospectus, in which the prospectors discussed Dusty Baker's impact on the Giants' hitters.
By looking at every player who had at least 350 PA in a year under Baker and MLB experience prior to coming the 'Frisco, the article showed players improved by 8% under Baker.
Given that the Cards have had the winningest record in baseball two years running and have averaged 95 wins a year over the last four seasons, the prorated estimate is likely low.
