Synthesizer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Synthesizers create sounds through direct manipulation of electrical voltages (as in analog synthesizers), mathematical manipulation of discrete values using computers (as in software synthesizers), or by a combination of both methods.
Synthesizers typically have a keyboard which provides the human interface to the instrument and are often thought of as keyboard instruments.
Another one of the early synthesizers was the ANS synthesizer, a machine that was constructed by the Russian scientist Evgeny Murzin from 1937 to 1957.

Musical keyboard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A musical keyboard is the set of adjacent depressible levers on a musical instrument which cause the instrument to produce sounds.
Musical instruments with keyboards of this type include the piano, harpsichord, clavichord, organ, electric piano, electronic piano, digital piano, synthesizer, "arranger keyboard" or "home keyboard" (also called "electronic keyboard"), celesta, dulcitone, accordion, melodica, glasschord, and carillon.
The arranger keyboard uses pre-set drum rhythms which respond to chords played in the left hand by the instrumentalist, with other buttons and switches used to change rhythms and even the voice of the instrument.

Electronic keyboard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are also keyboards which are not instruments at all, but are merely MIDI controllers which are used to control other MIDI instruments, which may or may not have a human interface of their own.
Conversely, keyboard players who are used to the non-weighted action may encounter difficulty and discomfort playing on a piano or electronic piano with weighted keys.
The origin of this control is not from keyboard instruments, but from string instruments like the guitar in which the player can increase the frequency by pushing the string aside.

Between April 1969 and October 1971 I made ten synthesizer records, of which Annette Peacock did voice synthesis on eight, one of which she is the leader on.
